Frequently Asked Questions
From applicators running rigs, and from crews deciding whether to buy one.
Equipment & Throughput
What size proportioner do I actually need?
Depends entirely on your bid mix. An E-20 class machine handles bed liners, vehicle work, trailer decks, and small maintenance jobs comfortably. If you intend to bid roofs, tank interiors, or shop contract coating, output becomes the binding constraint and you want E-30 class. Tell us the work you are chasing and we will give you a straight recommendation — we do not sell equipment, so we gain nothing by oversizing you.
What production rate can I quote against?
Ask us for figures against your specific machine and DFT rather than working off a brochure number. Spray time is rarely the constraint anyway — masking, prep, and access usually dominate the schedule. When crews miss their day rate it is almost always because masking was underestimated, not because the rig was slow.
What else do I need beyond the proportioner?
Heated hose sized for your realistic parking distance, an impingement-mix gun plus a spare kit, adequate and dry compressed air, generator capacity under actual load, and PPE including supplied air for confined work. The spare gun kit is the item crews skip and then regret on a shutdown job.
Can I run your material through equipment I already own?
If it is a plural-component proportioner with heated hose in the E-20 to E-30 class or equivalent, almost certainly. Send us the make, model, hose length, and gun and we will confirm before you order material rather than after.
Buying & Terms
What does wholesale pricing require?
Tell us your region, your equipment, and rough monthly volume and we will put you on the appropriate schedule. Pricing tiers move with volume, and scheduled supply — material arriving against your job calendar — is available once your consumption is predictable.
How does the material ship, and what about freight?
Kits and drum sets, nationwide. Freight on multi-pallet orders is a real line item and worth pricing into large bids rather than absorbing. Ask us for landed cost to your yard when you request the schedule.
Can I get it under my own brand?
Yes. Every Oak Ridge product is available private-label as WatchGuard, and the sub-lines cover coatings, primer, roof, floor, and foam. Applicators and distributors building their own identity use this regularly.
Do you send work to applicators?
We do. Retail and single-job enquiries arriving through our sites get routed by region to applicators running our material. Get on the list by telling us your coverage area, your rig, and the work you want.
On the Job
The film came out soft and tacky. What happened?
Off-ratio, in nearly every case. Check pressure balance across both sides under trigger — divergence means one side is starving — and verify heat on both A and B. Off-ratio material will not cure out with time; it has to come off and be resprayed. Call us before you put another forty gallons over it.
How do I store A-side so it does not go off?
Sealed, temperature-controlled, and with desiccant on anything opened. A-side is moisture-sensitive and moisture contamination is the most common way applicators write off material. Crystallization in a drum that was left open is not recoverable.
What is the honest weather window?
Better than conventional coatings because the material gels in seconds rather than staying wet for hours, but not unlimited. The substrate must be above dew point and free of condensation, and both component and hose temperature need to hold. Give us your conditions and we will give you a real window rather than a disclaimer.
How do I handle a customer who wants a warranty over rusty steel?
Be explicit in the quote. Full warranty terms require SP6 blast, verified profile, chloride limits, and documented DFT. SP3 overcoating of sound, tight rust is legitimate work with a reduced-warranty note, and it needs to be written into the proposal rather than discussed verbally. Applicators who put that in writing get repeat work.
Question From an Active Job?
Call or write. We support jobs while they are running, not just at the quoting stage.
